Using Fldigi for the ARRL Frequency Measuring Test (FMT) – Bob Howard, VE3YX

A great article authored by my friend Bob Howard VE3YX describing the ARRL Frequency Measuring Tests, and outlining some of the techniques he uses while taking part in these exercises, including the latest FMT mode included in recent releases of Fldigi. If you look closely at the published ARRL FMT results for April 2022 (as shown in the image at left) you will notice that both Bob and our friend Tom W7SUA, achieved measurement of the transmitted signals within 1 Hz of the nominal frequency. Both Bob and Tom regularly achieve results that place them in the coveted ‘green box’ during the FMT exercises…testament to their capabilities in accurately measuring the frequency of received HF radio transmissions. – Rick VE3ORY

Some additional notes from Tom W7SUA regarding his techniques for FMT measurements and estimates for Doppler shift. -Tom W7SUA
